Who we are

Bright Births is a registered business name operated by Jemma Suzanne McQueen as a sole trader in Australia. For privacy enquiries, contact jemma.mcqueen@gmail.com or write to 52 Lodge Street, Balgowlah NSW 2093, Australia.

Information we collect

When you enquire, book or purchase, we may collect your name, email address, phone number, billing and transaction details, course enrolment and progress information, correspondence, and information you choose to share about your pregnancy, due date, birth preferences, previous birth experiences or medical concerns. Our online enquiry and booking forms generally collect only your name, estimated due date and preferred course date. More detailed pregnancy or birth information is generally provided by you directly by email. We may also collect technical information such as device, browser, site usage and cookie identifiers.

Why we collect it

We use information to answer enquiries, process bookings and payments, provide courses and resources, arrange sessions, communicate important service updates, maintain business records, improve our services, and meet legal obligations. Pregnancy and health-related information is requested only where relevant to understanding your circumstances and tailoring the educational experience. Providing detailed medical information is voluntary, and you may ask why a particular question is needed.

Sensitive information and consent

Pregnancy and medical information can be sensitive. Where required, we seek your consent before collecting sensitive information and limit collection to what is reasonably necessary for the purpose of delivering or tailoring our services. We do not use pregnancy or health information for marketing. Please only provide information you are comfortable sharing, and do not submit sensitive information about another person without their permission.

Service providers and overseas processing

We use third-party service providers to operate our website, deliver courses, communicate with customers, process payments and understand website performance. These currently include Squarespace, Teachable and Google services, together with payment providers used through those platforms. Some providers may store or process information outside Australia. Their handling of information is governed by their own privacy policies. We disclose only the information reasonably necessary for these functions, or where required or authorised by law.

Marketing and cookies

We do not currently send a regular marketing newsletter. If we introduce marketing emails, we will send them only where we have an appropriate basis to do so, such as your consent, and every marketing message will include an easy way to unsubscribe. Booking a course does not automatically mean that you have agreed to receive a general marketing newsletter. Our website may use essential, analytics and advertising cookies or similar technologies, including services provided by Squarespace and Google. You can use available cookie controls and browser settings to manage these technologies.

Storage and security

We take reasonable steps to protect information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including appropriate account security, access controls and reputable service providers. Pregnancy-related, health and birth information provided in preparation for a Bright Births course will generally be deleted within 12 months after completion of the course, unless there is a legitimate or legal reason to retain it for longer. Other personal information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected. Business, tax and transaction records may be kept for longer where required by law. When information is no longer required, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.

Access, correction and complaints

You may contact us to request access to or correction of personal information, or raise a privacy concern. We will respond within a reasonable period. Where applicable, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner if you remain dissatisfied.

Changes

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our services or legal obligations. The current version will be published on our website.
