1. Register your interest
Let Jemma know you're interested by sharing your preferred area on the Northern Beaches and your rough due date.
2. Jemma confirms a date
Once enough couples are interested in a similar timeframe and location, Jemma will confirm a workshop date and venue.
3. Secure your spot
Once the date is confirmed, you'll be invited to book and pay to secure your place in the group.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Good questions, answered honestly.
Anything else on your mind? Please reach out to ask
How long until a workshop date is confirmed?
01
It depends on demand and how quickly a group comes together in your area. Jemma will keep you updated, and if a date is taking a while to confirm, she'll always let you know (within a couple of weeks of registering) so you can consider the digital course or one-to-one sessions in the meantime.
Can I get a refund if the date doesn't work for me once confirmed?
02
We won’t take any payment from you until the date is confirmed and you are happy. If things change for you after payment we will do everything we can to find you another suitable workshop date. If this is not possible we will refund you your full payment.
Do both of us need to attend?
03
We do strongly encourage you to attend with your birth partner. The workshop is designed for couples, and your birth partner's preparation genuinely makes a difference. The pricing is per couple and includes a dedicated birth partner session in the afternoon. That said, single attendees are more than welcome, just get in touch and Jemma will make it work.
Is this suitable for all birth types?
04
Absolutely. The Bright Births workshop covers every kind of birth - natural, medicated, induced or caesarean. A positive birth experience isn't about the method, it's about feeling informed, in control and supported whatever happens on the day.
05
What if I’m not on the Northern Beaches?
The group workshops are currently held across the Northern Beaches only. If you're further afield, the digital course is available anywhere in Australia and works just as well, or get in touch about an online one-to-one session with Jemma.
What’s covered in a Bright Births group antenatal workshop?
06
The full Bright Births programme in a single day: the physiology of labour and what your body is actually doing, breathing and hypnobirthing relaxation techniques, how fear causes pain and how to interrupt that cycle, every pain management option from epidurals to water birth (without pushing any particular approach), birth preferences and how to communicate them, your birth partner’s practical role, and what to expect in the hours and days after birth. It’s a complete preparation, not a surface-level overview.
Do I still need to attend a hospital antenatal course?
07
Bright Births covers birth preparation in much more depth than most hospital antenatal courses - including mindset, hypnobirthing techniques, and birth partner preparation that hospitals rarely cover. That said, hospital courses are useful for understanding their specific procedures, policies and facilities. Many couples do both, using Bright Births as their primary preparation and the hospital course as a useful supplement.
What makes this different to other antenatal courses?
08
Honesty, mainly. Most birth prep courses either focus purely on the medical side (what might happen) or go very deeply into hypnobirthing (and can feel a bit woo-woo if that's not your thing). Bright Births sits in the middle - evidence-based and grounded in science, but with the mindset and relaxation tools that actually make a difference on the day. And it works for every kind of birth, not just the ones that go to plan.
Is an antenatal class worth it for a second baby?
09
Often more so than for a first. If your first birth didn’t go the way you hoped, or left you with anxiety about doing it again, focused preparation can change everything. Even if your first birth was positive, this pregnancy is different, and a refresher on breathing techniques and birth partner preparation is never wasted. Jemma’s workshops welcome second-time parents and she’ll focus on whatever’s most relevant to where you are now.
What is hypnobirthing and is it part of the workshop?
10
Yes. Hypnobirthing tools are woven throughout the Bright Births programme. Hypnobirthing isn’t about being in a trance or having a particular type of birth - it’s a set of breathing, visualisation and relaxation techniques grounded in the relationship between fear, tension and pain. The less fear you carry into labour, the less tension your body holds, and the more manageable the experience becomes. These techniques work regardless of whether you’re planning a home birth, an epidural or a caesarean.
What is the best time in pregnancy to do an antenatal class?
11
Between 24 and 32 weeks is ideal for a group workshop. Early enough that you have time to practise the techniques and absorb the information, late enough that birth feels real and imminent enough to focus your attention. If you’re further along than 32 weeks, get in touch as one-to-one sessions can be scheduled flexibly and are often a better fit for later-pregnancy bookings.
