WHAT FAMILIES SAY
From the Bright Births family.
"I wasn't expecting a logical and rational technique. I wasn't expecting to come away feeling totally prepared for my labour - and, shock horror, genuinely excited by it."
"We did the refresher course with Jemma, and could not have been happier. After a less than perfect first birth, I was determined to have more positive experience. Jemma helped me work through some fears and gave us some genuinely helpful tools for birth, which I don’t know what I would have done without! Thank you Jemma "
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Anything else on your mind?
Here are the questions Jemma hears most often. Yours not here? Just ask.
Can we do a private antenatal course online if we live outside Sydney?
01
Yes. Online sessions via Zoom work just as well as in-person for everything except Jemma being physically in the room with you. Couples join from all over Australia. If you’re outside Sydney’s Northern Beaches, online one-to-one is the closest thing to a private, fully tailored birth preparation experience you’ll find anywhere in the country.
How far in advance should we book?
02
Ideally between 20 and 32 weeks. This gives you plenty of time to work through the sessions gradually and practise the techniques before your birth. That said, if you're later in your pregnancy, get in touch as we can often work with tighter timelines.
What if something comes up and we need to reschedule?
03
We understand that life with a bump is unpredictable. Sessions can be rescheduled with reasonable notice, and we'll always do our best to find a time that works for you.
Is the mini course right for us if we had a difficult first birth?
04
It depends. If your previous birth left you with significant anxiety or trauma, the full course is likely a better fit as it gives you much more time and depth to work through those feelings properly. The mini course is best for parents who had a broadly positive experience and simply want to feel refreshed and ready again. Not sure which is right for you? Book a free chat and Jemma will help you figure it out.
Does my birth partner need to attend every session?
05
We do strongly encourage it and the sessions are designed for both of you. Your birth partner's preparation makes a real difference on the day. That said, we understand that schedules don't always align, and so can always work around it if needed. The dedicated birth partner content can also be covered in the digital course.
Do I still need to attend a hospital antenatal course?
06
Bright Births covers birth preparation in much more depth than most hospital antenatal courses - including mindset, hypnobirthing techniques, and birth partner preparation that hospitals rarely cover. That said, hospital courses are useful for understanding their specific procedures, policies and facilities. Many couples do both, using Bright Births as their primary preparation and the hospital course as a useful supplement.
What makes this different to other antenatal courses?
07
Honesty, mainly. Most birth prep courses either focus purely on the medical side (what might happen) or go very deeply into hypnobirthing (and can feel a bit woo-woo if that's not your thing). Bright Births sits in the middle - evidence-based and grounded in science, but with the mindset and relaxation tools that actually make a difference on the day. And it works for every kind of birth, not just the ones that go to plan.
What is the refund policy?
08
If you’re not sure whether it’s right for you, feel free to reach out before purchasing, we’re always happy to help.
We also offer a money back guarantee - if you find after the first session that the content isn’t for you, you can get a full refund for the course.
It depends entirely on what you’re looking for. A private session means the content is built entirely around you - your fears, your birth preferences, your partner’s needs, your specific circumstances. Nothing is generic. You’re not waiting for a topic that matters to you between topics that don’t.
If you’re someone who processes things better through conversation rather than sitting in a group, or if you have complex questions or a previous birth experience you want to work through, one-to-one is almost always the better fit.
Is a private birth preparation session better than a group antenatal class?
09
What does a private antenatal session actually cover?
10
The full Bright Births programme: which includes the physiology of labour, breathing and relaxation techniques, hypnobirthing tools, birth preferences and how to advocate for yourself, pain management options for every kind of birth, your birth partner’s role, and what to expect in the early days with a newborn.
The difference from a group course is that Jemma shapes all of it around your specific questions, concerns and circumstances rather than following a fixed structure.
Your midwife’s job is to monitor your health and your baby’s wellbeing during pregnancy and birth - they’re clinicians. Birth preparation is different: it’s about equipping you with the knowledge, techniques and mindset to actively participate in your own birth rather than just respond to what happens. Most midwives don’t have the time in appointments to go deep on breathing techniques, hypnobirthing, birth partner preparation or the psychology of fear and pain. That’s what Bright Births is for.
How is a private birth preparation session different from what a midwife provides?
11
I’m 36 weeks pregnant, is it too late to book a private birth preparation session?
12
Not at all. It’s actually one of the most common times to book. The private format means sessions can be compressed into a shorter timeframe, and Jemma will prioritise what’s most useful given how close you are to your due date. Even one focused session in the final weeks can make a significant difference to how calm and prepared you feel on the day. Get in touch and Jemma will work out what’s realistic for you.
